Job Description
The skill set in priority order
1. Good all-round Java experience – J2SE and realistically J2EE/serverside coding
a. OOD and Design patterns – a disciplined approach to coding with Java
b. Unit testing frameworks – obviously JUnit
2. Development in an agile/scrum environment, and exposure to working in a distributed team (offshore and onshore)
3. Serverside technologies
a. Core stuff: Spring, Web Services, XML
b. Platforms: Tomcat (or similar serverside ‘container’ / platform e.g. WebLogic or WebSphere etc...)
c. Any GWT an advantage; Any ExtGWT a distinct advantage (or ExtJS for the JavaScript role)
d. RDBMS and Object Relational Mapping – Hibernate and exposure to JDBC and Oracle
4. "Serverside client" technologies
a. Experience of web-client technologies is also desirable but not mandatory – JSP; CSS; JavaScript etc.
5. Clientside Java technologies
a. Swing is a bonus but is not mandatory. Experience with Spring can make the use of GWT easier.
6. Hibernate, Design Patterns, Subversion (or similar version control), Eclipse or similar
Experience of working with mixed onshore/offshore development teams
Technical Experience
Essential :
· Expert Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) – No J2EE required
· Working knowledge of web design using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
· Good knowledge of design patterns and when they are appropriate to be used
· Can design complex business logic with multiple threads and safe access of share data structures
· Can produce quick POCs to demonstrate knowledge and understanding
· Working with data sets in XML or defining new XML data sets with appropriate schemas
· Ability to design modules using UML / VISIO to articulate design decisions to the rest of the team
· Good database skills using SQL and able to build schema definitions or add to existing ones
· Ability to diagnose and understand complex problems with concurrency and timing issues
